Legislation has brought much more public awareness of the new flexibility and freedoms, but there’s been no big behavioural change. No client has taken out their fund and blown it on a Lamborghini!
t’s feeling better. Following a significant sell-off in August, the market rallied in early September and then saw another drop. We viewed the turbulence as an overdue market correction – part and parcel of investing in financial markets – not as the beginning of a global bear market.
Research suggests that adult money habits are set by the age of seven. How did your own upbringing shape your approach?
I was lucky: my father worked in finance, and my mother was stock market and savings obsessed. When I was five or six, she took me on a visit to the City – I remember watching the trading on the old Stock Exchange.
